Was your issue maybe that your controller was doing random stuff? it still works perfectly fine on my wifes PC, but mine crashed yesterday and it seems to have saved the files in the cloud or something, because no matter what i delete or replace. Steam doesn't provide a way to do this automatically so hopefully this helps out anyone who is having issues with getting their controllers to work while we wait for Steam to introduce a way to do it without messing with files.
